3D printed Isle Class Trawler
Isles class Trawler
This is designed as a wargame model for any 1:300 WW2 coastal game including Warlord games Cruel Seas. I have included a data card I made for it below.
Unpainted 3D printed model of British Isles Class Trawler from World War 2.
I have designed and printed this model myself at 1:300 scale.
Important please read carefully before buying.
Print on demand
I only have a small stock and will need to print more out (this can take a day!) if they sell quickly. This might mean a small delay in sending your ship. Please don't buy if you don't want to wait. I will contact you if there will be a delay.
Quality
This is a 3D printed model in ABS material. If you are not familiar with 3D printed models please look at the pictures carefully. The printing process works by building the model up in layers which are visible if you get close to it. The small parts such as the air vents and guns tend to loose quality.
Some gamer's prefer to remove these small parts (especially gun barrels) and replace them with there own versions (wire). I, however, decided the model looked fine with them as is.
The printing process involves using a support structure (which I remove for you) which can leave small lumps. I then use an Acetate tank to smooth out the worst of the lines. It is easy to clean the model up even further with a scalp knife however care would need to be taken around the more delicate parts. I choose to not clean my model any more. The unpainted model shown is the quality I used for the painted version.
Having said all that if it is viewed from a short distance ie when playing a game you can not see faults. See the pictures of a game in progress (the cargo ship is 3D printed) and the group photo. The game picture was taken at the Vapentak wargames show in York 2019 and I had lots of very favourable comments from the punters there.
If you have any doubts about the quality please don't buy. I have tried to show the quality as clearly as possible in the photos.
Strength
The model itself is very strong and can take a lots of bashing. However, the more delicate parts like the air vents can be easily broken off. Super glues works fine to reattach any thing that does get broken off.
Painting
I find acrylic paint (I use Vallejo paints) takes very well to the ABS material. The painted model had a quick under coat of Vallejo grey airbrush primer (which is the hull colour you can see) then the deck was painted followed by the other detail.
Masts
I provide the masts shown. There are holes for the masts which go through the hull. These can also be used to place your own masts made from wire or any other suitable material you prefer. The masts are not ABS but printed in resin for quality..
